We're very excited to have The Hambledon now stock our products, I am a big fan of the store and if you're visiting Winchester it's a must see! Check out the Q&A below:
1. Tell us about the beginnings of The Hambledon and the inspiration behind it?
I was almost literally born into retail. My mum took me to work in her shop when I was 6 weeks old and parked me under the counter in a moses basket. Since then I've done a few other things but came back to shopkeeping 25 years ago. I had a mail order business and we had a weird concentration of customers in Hampshire so we opened The Hambledon! It was a very simple premise. We just want to sell things we love.
2. Where did you hear about Norfolk Natural Living?
I'm a thief/magpie/detective/enthusiast (delete as appropriate) and was visiting the beautiful Water Lane in my capacity as both customer and spy. Norfolk Living looked perfect there and I may have taken inspiration from them.
3. If a customer asked for your favourite Norfolk Natural Living product currently in store, which would you choose and why?
Geranium and Tomato Leaf Hand Wash (which reminds me of my grandfather's greenhouse) and the Rose Mould Spray (we've just moved house and have inherited lots of roses which I'm determined to look after).
4. If you were visiting Winchester for 24 hours for the first time, what would you recommend?
Obviously The Hambledon. Walk around the Water Meadows. See the encaustic tiles in the retrochoir in the cathedral. Check out PG Wells Bookshop. Have a nice salad lunch at Open House Deli, a coffee from The Orangery and a Nepalese curry at The Gurkha's Inn.
