I treated myself and my husband to some down pillows a good few years ago now, and I’m pleased to say that they’re still in great condition. They’re a great investment and really are so comfy and luxurious. With proper care and maintenance they can last a good twenty years or so. With my tips and tricks, you can keep them fresh and clean by washing your down pillows at home.
It’s a good idea to cover your down pillows with pillow protectors - this will help stop the absorption of the natural oils and skin cells that we shed. Make sure that these are laundered regularly along with the pillows themselves.

You will want to wash your down pillows on the gentlest cycle in your washing machine - either delicates or woolens. Add Silk and Wool Wash and launder as normal - probably one at a time is best so not to damage your machine. Once clean, pop them into the dryer with a couple of dryer balls, or tennis balls work well too. These will prevent them from getting lumpy.
As a side note, if you or your partner have allergies or asthma, avoid down pillows and opt for hypoallergenic alternatives instead.
